日常生活中只要处处留心和注意，那么节约能源的地方太多了。
一是从家里的灯泡瓦数来控制，不要每个房间都用大灯泡。除了书房和客厅灯泡瓦数可以大一点外，其他房间没有必要用大灯泡，走廊和凉台灯泡可以更小一点。
二是要注意早、晚的开灯时间，早晨起床如果能看到做事就不要开灯，因为早晨天越来越亮，你把灯开了就经常忘记关了。晚上不到天黑不要开灯，要杜绝一进大门就打开客厅的灯习惯，这样做是非常浪费能源的。
三是家电（电视机、电风扇、空调、微波炉，烤箱等）用后要及时拔掉电插头。使用空调时要严格按照空调说明书上要求的空调间温度与室外温度的相差指数操作。无论冬天或夏天，空调间温度与室外温度不能相差太大，否则不但是浪费能源，而且也不利于人的身体健康。微波炉、电饭煲、电烤箱等常用家电都要按照说明书上的要求操作，否则不但浪费能源，而且也会影响家电的使用寿命。例如用微波炉热菜时，要根据菜的多少来调火力的大小与时间的长短，不要无论多少菜都开大火，都用时5分钟等，这样不但浪费能源而且热的菜也不好吃。
四是使用燃气热水器时要依据季节来调水温，不能一年四季都用冬天的水温标准。用燃气灶炒菜时不能什么菜都将燃气开到最大指数，要掌握炒什么菜应用猛火，炒什么菜应用文火。还有炒菜时什么时候应该用猛火，什么时候应该用文火，这些炒菜的基本常识如果不掌握不但炒的菜不好吃，而且造成很大的能源浪费。
五是用燃气灶烧开了水时，如果时间允许就开燃气灶中间的火烧，用中间的火烧开水时，一壶水能节约不少燃气。无论你时间紧还是松，用燃气灶烧开水时都不能将燃气灶的火开到最大指数，否则就非常浪费能源。
